I had been kind of casually looking at real estate in the Bay Area, particularly in San Francisco, for the past couple of years. At the start of 2010, when some of my employment uncertainty became certain again, I started to search more earnestly, using sites like Redfin and ZipRealty to find properties, locate open houses, watch price trends, etc. At some point in February, I decided that looking for real estate by checking out websites was not enough, and I needed help. I had recently had a good experience looking on Yelp for auto repair (the first time I had used Yelp to find a service and not just a restaurant), so I looked under real estate agents, and I found Domicile Properties. And I am so glad I did!

The “end” of the story is that I bought a really nice house in San Francisco, and I paid a great price and got a mortgage interest rate that I can actually afford. The middle of the story is much longer, and it includes everyone at Domicile being helpful, patient, and diligent in helping me find the right place at the right price. I really felt like the whole thing was a collaborative effort, and everyone was so great every step of the way; it would be way too lengthy for me to go into all of the details of how great they were every step of the way.

Special thanks to Shane for the countless visits to properties all over the city, educating me on disclosure packages, sharing his own home-buying experiences, and always being quick to reply to an e-mail or phone call, and to Ellie, for the millions of things she did behind the scenes with keeping all of the paperwork in order. Even though I didn’t normally deal directly with Ellie, she always knew the latest happenings with what was going on with me and my home search and eventual purchase, so I know that she was more heavily involved than I realize.
